Row 1 Productions… I Love It When a Plan Comes Together!
Lifelong dream + Texas = Row 1 Productions. Here’s the short version of how it happened.
First of all, if you’re reading this, it means you are now a part of the lifelong pursuit of Scott Rowan (that’s me!). Come on in! The water’s warm!
It all started with my parents’ VHS camera, a lot of extra time on my hands, and some really great friends. The first few attempts at filmmaking were circa eight years old with my partner in crime, Ryan Wright… my at-the-time-neighbor. These films included such titles as Peach Fuzz and Spac Aliens… (either Space Aliens was taken or we didn’t know how to spell).
In late 2004, the very first Row 1 Productions project was launched: Perseus Episode I: The Phantom Medusa. This was a short film produced for an English class assignment at South Medford High in Medford, Oregon (hi Mrs. Wieczorek!). My writing parter and co-producer Alex Mueller (hi Alex!) and I went on to produce a few other films together and even had our first film festival experience at the Forest Grove Film Festival in Forest Grove, Oregon with our short film William Shakespeare, a look at the life of the famed writer through a parody of Forrest Gump. Good times were had indeed! (Alex has gone on to become an incredible web designer and a real wiz at CSS, HTML, and all thing computer… and is currently in the process of developing a top secret app. Check him out!
After graduating from Loyola Marymount University with a degree in film production, I worked my way around the film and entertainment industry in Los Angeles, California. After some time as a production assistant for cool films and television shows like Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, Dance Your Ass Off, Dexter, and The Ellen Show, I ended up landing at Retrofit Films. While there, I worked with (for) Chris Hanada and Tanner Kling (hey guys!), and cut my teeth and learned the ropes in the world of producing. I had the pleasure of producing some really fun stuff for clients such as Marvel, Disney, Fandango, and Warner Brothers (specifically DVD extra content for The Originals and The Vampire Diaries… hi Nina Dobrev!), all-the-while trying to snatch the fly from the palms of my mentors, bosses, and friends… I’m talking about Chris and Tanner with all three categories if that wasn’t clear. (BTW… a special and heartfelt thanks should go out to Chris and Tanner, and the entire team at Retrofit Films for their support and encouragement of the pursuit of my dreams).
Baby bird then spread his wings in August of 2014 (…meaning… I left full time employment at Retrofit Films to explore the freelance lifestyle, stand-up comedy, and paying for my own health insurance), and by the end of the summer of 2015, Row 1 Productions officially became a Limited Liability Company… in Texas.
Right… Texas… have you been? It’s awesome. Particularly Austin, which is where Row 1 Productions is based. What can I say… the tax incentives, normal pace of life, and endless bottles of craft beer and queso called my name.
4 Days, 3.5 states, 17 feet of rental truck, 1 girlfriend (hi Melody), and here I am.
Already, Row 1 Production has worked with several really cool Austin clients! And, we are working on developing some new original concepts to be released in the coming months! So please like, subscribe, and follow all of our many social media outlets to keep up to date on our projects.
From Spac Aliens and Peach Fuzz, to Ellen, Stan Lee and Nina Dobrev, and now to a full fledged production company, it has been quite the journey. I want to thank all of my family and friends who have ever laughed at my jokes, been in my “films,” or just plain showed support in their own way. It is because of you that I am here and ready to put the peddle to the metal, and create some really good stuff.
So thank you, and stay tuned!
